The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation (founded in 1968), offering four international education courses to develop the intellectual skills needed to live, learn and work in a globalized planet.
Of these, the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) is a five-year programme for students aged 11-16 (Year 5 to Year 9) in preparation for the four year IB Diploma Program for students aged 16-19 (Year 10 to Year 13). In the final year of the MYP, optional MYP eAssessment provides IB-validated grades for externally assessed students who become eligible for MYP course results and the IB MYP Certificate.
The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK) - in which students reflect on the nature of knowledge and on how we know what we claim to know. Creativity, activity, service (CAS) - in which students complete a project related to those three concepts, and the extended essay - which is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.
The DP was established in 1968 at the International School of Geneva to provide students with a balanced education, by facilitating geographic and cultural mobility and for fostering international understanding.
